A lot of updates

December 18, 2010

Once again, sorry for the lack of updates. Here’s a summary of what I’ve missed in the past two months:

– BBC Radio 1 aired the Electro Swing special on November 20th. You can find it on the Downloads page or just click here. Photos can be found on Facebook and a behind the scenes video by Andy Wilkin can be found on Vimeo.
Andy also has a video from when they were at the Paradise Gardens festival.

– Zacke uploaded a video of him and Movits! doing an acoustic version of ‘Småstadsblues’ backstage before a gig which can be found on his website.
Back in October Zacke’s album was officially released in North America by the record label 59 North Recordings. An interview about it can be found on NSD.

– The Swedish radio station Notion Blend did an interview with Johan which you can listen to on YouTube.

– They will play the festival Putte I Parken next year between 6-9 July.

– They’ve shot a video for ‘Sammy Davis Jr’ and Zacke has posted some behind the scenes photos on his Flickr.

– The guys have also played a festival in Bratislava, BD Pop’s Social Club, a Swedish PR company’s opening party and Expo 2010 in Shanghai. I don’t have any links though, it seems like I lost my bookmarks for them.

– Everyone’s favorite Gothenburger, Gillis, mentioned on his blog that the album will be release in March with a 2 week long Sweden tour and then they’re heading to the States in April. Unfortunately, Gillis won’t be with the guys on the tour.

Norrlandskit

– On Thursday they played at Musikhjälpen where they’re also auctioning off a Norrlands-package which includes a Sami-hoodie, a hat, a pair of “näbb”
(beak) shoes and a pre-party with the guys.
To bid on the package go here. It ends on Sunday at noon.

While at Musikhjälpen they performed two songs and a late night freestyle jam with Frej Larsson (Slagsmålsklubben, Maskinen etc.), Dida & Timbuktu.

Better late than never…right?

October 2, 2010

Here’s a summary of what I’ve missed during the last couple of weeks:

– The Valvträsk festival became a huge success with 1500 visitors. Articles about it can be found on Kuriren & NSD and a video report on 24Norrbotten.

– Photos from Popkomm can be found here, here and on Raw Investigations. An interview with Movits! can also be found on Raw Investigations website.
They also did an interview with BerlinIsMusic.tv which can be found here.

– Zacke has released two new videos. One for the remix of ‘Men Nanting!’ and one for ‘Konsten Att Släppa Taget’.

– Video of Movits! at Bestival can be found on Vimeo. I also have an interview and 3 live tracks that Bestival Radio did that I’m gonna upload. I will post an update when they’re up.

– Last week Evolution was released. Those of you outside of Sweden are able to find it on Amazon under the name “This Is Swedish Hip Hop Evolution”.

I made a YouTube playlist with all the videos in this post so it’s easier for you guys to find them all.

Uhrturmkasematte and Valvträsk

August 18, 2010

A bunch of pictures from Movits! show at Uhrturmkasematte in Graz, Austria can be found on Flickr.

Valvträsk may sound like a village in a Pettson & Findus movie, but it does exist for real and lies about 50km above Boden. With its population of 25 people they’re now arranging a minifestival on August 20th with performances by Movits!, Zacke, Timbuktu, The Establishment, The New Man and Tingsek.
An interview with the organizer Karl-Lennart Eriksson can be found on TV4’s website and more info about the festival can be found on Valvträsk’s website.

I can’t think of a fitting title

July 7, 2010

Sorry for the laziness and slow tempo on the updates, but I’m now back and rolling. Here’s a summary of what’s going on with the boys:

– The magazine Hackney Gazette had a page about the Paradise Gardens Festival. Click thumbnail for full picture.

movits1

The Guardian had their readers send in their Glastonbury reviews and a guy named Matthew Dyas wrote about his newfound love for Movits!

“I went to Glastonbury, and yes, I watched Wonder, saw Snoop and gazed at the Gorillaz but the real highlight for me were a band I stumbled upon by accident.
Late one night after a day in the sun I happened up on a band called Movits! I usually consider myself a cultured fellow, but I can honestly say I’d never listened to any Swedish hip hop/swing bands before. That’s all changed. What a revelation, I’d never heard anything like it before. A Swedish man in a tuxedo and a bobble hat rapping about "Frank and Sammy Davis" accompanied by another on a saxophone. After dancing and a good attempt at joining in, alas, the set came to an end. It was a sad moment I thought, leaving the tent to trudge off to Arcadia.
After a bit more wandering and a lot more stumbling, the night was coming to an end but there surrounded by twisted metal and fire-breathing machines was my favourite Swedish hip-hop/swing band performing their second gig of the night. It was even better than the first. Movits!”

MovitsBimbleInn
